A friend suggested I use a backtrack while recording a few melodies he wants me to play. I have harps but not much knowledge of what this entails. When I want to learn the rhythm of a tune I play it with something like a U Tube recording to get the correct rhythm. I thought this was what I was using but not sure. When the rhythm is correct I can tell as I am playing right over the U Tube recording, Can someone explain what a backtrack is and how you use it to learn and/or record songs? Obviously I am no tech guru and like it or not we live in a high tech world.

Thanks I have ben using U Tube for this to learn rhythm. It is the best method I have as I live in a remote area from a harp standpoint. I was learning Shenandoah today and the rhythm varies, depending on who is plying. I like the way Carlie McCoy plays it.

I don’t know that tune but playing it to a backing only track will force you to get it in its entirety. You will hear yourself better. Apple and spotify have a lot of karaoke or backing tracks that are greatvto play along with too.
