Making sure the reed plate on the draw side is entirely flat, will help with air tightening as also would sanding it flat. I’ve tried adding a gasket to a couple of mine. Tbh, not all that noticable in tone I don’t think and it’s not really cost effective. I think I’ve possibly taken it as far as I can go with general customizing except for tunings (I’ve done one so far) but I’m not all that sure it’s worth it for that when I can buy most of the more exotic tunings I might use

At @MorrisMusic513 you’re 100% right! Thank you. If a custom comb improves airtightness between the comb and cover-plates, then that absolutely will affect performance and tone.
I know Joe Spiers works the cover plates to make sure they’re perfectly airtight with the combs.
