My hearing is not great so learning by ear is a long, long process for me. So I tried to ease and shorten that with this diagram. Since it is possible to play the chromatic scale with this paddy-tuned harp I hoped to make it less painful to use a lead sheet to get the notes and timing as well as to see in which holes they exist and whether to blow or draw while pressing or releasing the slider. The numbers beside each note name assume you are playing the chromatic scale and suggest the order of playing the notes in that hole. If anyone finds this useful you are welcome to incorporate it into your acquisition of new songs… If you think of any improvements I am open to revising it..
Many chromatic harmonica teachers write tablature below sheet notes. Especially Asians do that, and that just works, but I think it isn’t a good idea. I think that a better idea is to train up ears or learn to read notes.
Hi Jan, I totally agree with you.. I’m using this in a small html page that I display on my iPad Pro. The drop-down song list lets you choose from images you have placed in a folder, and the Harp Tunings lets you pick an image from another folder. So as I read the sheet music I play the notes and hear the intervals. This is just one way to the destination. It trains the ear and reinforces your reading skills. I hope to eventually throw this away and just wail like the many harmonica heroes on this forum that I so admire.
