Quieter projection harmonicas

Hi all,
I read with interest on the Which Harmonica to Buy? page the Hohner Bluesband harmonica has a quieter projection. I live in a unit of a block of six, so I thought a quieter projection could be useful for me to practice without disturbing too many people. I ordered the Bluesband and the Fender Blues Delux, I already have a Lee Oskar. What other harmonicas are there that have a quieter projection or a mellow/duller sound to them?
Thank you

Hi @tom2340,

In my opinion the Seydel Session Steel blues harps are a little quieter and have a nice mellow sound to them. They can also be played loudly without as much risk that the reeds will be damaged: stainless steel reeds have longer life spans than brass reeds.

In my opinion, for darker toned quieter projection, check out the Suzuki’s: Hammond HA-20, Manji, Blues Master, and Harp Master. And maybe the Seydel Blues Session.

I’d be curious to see if @slim agrees with me about this?

Of all of these, the Hammond is probably my favorite, maybe just because it’s so darn sexy looking! :sunglasses:

On a side note, the harmonica is so portable, don’t neglect searching for a more private spot to practice. I’ve practiced by train tracks, in underpasses and tunnels, and I don’t know how many THOUSANDS of hours I’ve practiced in cars. Many times parked somewhere random in the middle of the night!

Rock on,
Luke

I pretty much agree with @Luke here except for the Suzuki Manji – mine is a C harp and it seems to me to be rather louder than the others mentioned. I must admit that I have never played a Suzuki Hammond, but the Blues Master is one I forgot to mention in my last reply above: I like their mellow sound and easy bending – and their nice price!! :sunglasses:

Thanks for chiming in here. OK cool, I’m in agreement. I actually hadn’t seen you’re reply to @tom2340 before I wrote mine - pretty cool that we both thought of the Seydel Blues Session!

Yeah the hammond is probably my favorite Suzuki. I’m not a huge fan of Suzuki’s as you probably know already.

Also, @tom2340 I just realized this is your first post on the forum, so WELCOME my friend!!! Hope to see you around here more.

Aloha,
Luke
