Roly Platt

I can’t help but notice Roly Platt plays out of the side of his mouth. Is he a lip purser or a tongue blocker? Just curious because of his method of playing.

@DonC If he is playing out of the side of his mouth, then he is most likely tongue-blocking. Listen to see if he is using octaves or chords, if so he is definitely tongue-blocking.

He’s lip pursing. How he can play at such weird angle and have such great tone beats me.

I only wish I could play that good.

Roly Platt is known to use the tongue-blocking technique on some of the songs he plays. While he is predominantly a lip purser, he does use tongue-blocking when necessary.

Safe to call him a lipper. He uses very little tongue blocking. Yes, unusual tilt. That’s just how it felt comfy for him. His book “Seriously I Play Harmonica” is a fun read with lots of great nuggets of harmonica wisdom.

I just got his book and will be reading it with great interest as I continue this journey of discovery learning harmonica.

Thanks,

Don.
