What is wrong with my harmonica?

Hey all,

I’m new here (and to the harmonica) so go easy on me

I have a Hohner Marine Band in G that I’m trying to play with a holder (Neil Young style). However, it seems that practicing I’ve damaged the harmonica. When I do a 3 or 4 draw the note sounds awful. 4 and 4 blow sound ok. I’ve made a little recording (first 4 blow, then 4 draw, excuse my bad playing!):

Here’s a recording of the 3 situation (first 3 blow, then 3 draw):

I’m not sure what’s wrong with my harmonica or how I can fix it so any help would be appreciated. It used to sound ok (as far as I can remember).

Thanks!

I’m thinking you got something stuck in there that’s keeping those reeds from doing their thing - if you’re comfy with taking it apart you can get a q-tip with some rubbing alcohol and clear up any debris you find in there OR if you don’t wanna take it apart just yet, you could try canned air to see if that helps.

I don’t know as any of that would damage the harmonica - I doubt the cleaning of the reeds when taking apart is a bad thing but the canned air - I think that if you try canned air just blow it through the mouth holes and not from the back - you may be able to push the reeds up REALLY messing it up. Maybe blow along the back along the side but not towards the inside where the reeds may be damaged.

Just my 2 cents and I’m a newbie so take my suggestions with caution - I personally would use the canned air first unless someone chimes in with a “Holy Crap dont DO that” type of shout
