Just found an old album by Quincy Johns. One some " Love Theme Getaway" is almost completely harmonica. Its slow and about as relaxing as it gets. If you have Amazon music take a couple of minutes and listen to it. I do not know who played harmonica but they were fantastic. I wish my harmonica endeavor started when I was young and now be able to play this type and quality of music. Don’t be surprised if it puts you to sleep and when you wake up its time for work.
Let me now what you think.
The harmonica (which is a chromatic harp rather than a 10 hole diatonic blues harp) was played by the illustrious harpist Toots Thielemans. If you have a chromatic harp, Toots is an excellent player to try to emulate.
Thanks for your reply. I always likes to watch Sanford and Son. The theme song was perfect. That harmonica player was great. He is probably gone as the album was released in 1972. The song I referred to was great when I came home after a two hour commute in traffic and a stressful day in banking. Without music I would have gone crazy. I wonder how long he played before his ability reached such a high level.
The musician that played the Dances With Wolves harmonica parts was in his 70s. Cannot remember his name but his resume is impressive. He played in Beach Boy music ( Pet Sounds ) The Doors and many others. If you know his name take a look at his resume.
The guy you’re talking about is a session player named Tommy Morgan. He passed away a year ago, but he was the most prolific session player in the world and actually had the most sessions recorded out of any musician, not Charlie McCoy. Morgan played on anything from TV shows to Movies to Albums and Songs.
You are correct. is a player of his quality able to play about any song after hearing it a few times or do or she learn the song and then play? He seems like the type pf musician that could play anything he way after hearing it .
