Chord Question

Hi-

I am learning Jazz, and currently trying to really learn the Eb scale on my Chromatic harp.

The scale I have is:

Eb F G Ab Bb C D Eb

And I am trying to build out major 7th chords from this.

For example, for the I and II chords I have:

I:
Eb G Bb D
-1* 3 -3* -1
-5* 7 -7* -5
-9* 11 -11* -9

II:
F Ab C Eb
-2 3* 1/4 -1*
-6 7* 5/8 -5*
-10 11* 9/12 -9*

I don’t think I did my chord intervals right on these. I am building chords out of the Eb scale, but instead should I be using every possible note in between?

I hope this makes sense…BTW, Jazz is fun!

Letter names look right! I’m not smart enough to know if the tabs are right, lol. @Hogie.Harmonica can chime in here?

I am not too worried about the tabs - Chromatic tabs are stupid simple since it is basically 3 octaves of the same notes (basically holes 4-7 of your diatonic repeateded).

I have been playing Diatonic for 2-3 years now, and still can figure out which notes go where!

DK, I chord looks right. Your ii chord is not a major 7th, it is a minor 7th.

I could be wrong, but I think you are meaning “the 7th chords built on each scale degree of the major scale.” That’s a better exercise anyway.

As for the tabs, find a note chart that shows you each note on the staff and its tab. It will take longer, offering this as “teach a man to fish.”

Then write out the notes of the Eb scale for two octaves.

Each 7th chord is built by stacking three pairs of thirds using the scale notes.
