Do different Chromatic Mouthpieces have different purposes, or is it just a preference thing?
What do you mean by “mouthpieces”?
@Luke At least with Hohner and Seydel, you can purchase the mouthpiece in either a half moon or trapazoidal shape to install on your Chromatic.
My Discovery 48 has a Trapazoidal mouthpiece, and it definitely feels different than a regular diatonic harp. I wasn’t sure if each mouthpiece was geared towards different playing styles, ie Tongue blocking/lip pursing, etc.
I just re-discovered a little used Discovery 48 in my auto console. I also remembered that it was little used because of the ABS mouthpiece. I searched the old chromatic site and someone wrote that the mouthpiece from a hohner 270 would fit. I have several older 270s in my hobby/music room and found an E that needed a new plate. I took the slide and mouthpiece assembly and replaced the plastic one from the 48 and it was perfect. I also sanded the front of the 48’s comb to make it more airtight. I now enjoy playing the 48 as a spare travel harp. Still not as good as my SCX48 though.
