So I wanted Crossover but not a wood comb. I ended up finding a guy through eBay who is Open Door harmonicas. this is the write up. Setup and custom reed work by Burke T. at Open Door Harmonicas . Custom features include a “Dark Brown” Andrew Zajac Composite comb, Marine Band Classic reed plates, and open back Crossover cover plates. Unique and stylish looks, comfort and ease of playing. Custom Features: Full slot embossing, reed profiling, optimized gaping, flat sanding, overblows on holes 4, 5, 6, with additional unique reed work for optimal response and bending. Tuning is to 19 limit JI with a Peterson Auto Strobe tuner."
Granted I am a beginner but I think it sounds pretty good. Easier to bend 1 and 3 for me than the special 20. I also think it looks pretty good and the composite comb is pretty nice. Anyone else gotten anything from this place? I also ordered it on the 3rd and got it today so that was nice.
Is this the US eBay? Or UK eBay?
US @Andy2 . The guy is in California.
Damn!
That’s him. I’ve been chatting with him a bit and he seem like a really decent person.
Looks like you on the right track out of the block. I have two Crossovers I got back today from HARPSMITH. That play great as the shop owner does it right. I agree about the Crossover in relative to the Special 20, which is not a bad harp, anything but.
I feel you got the best harp and will spend the least amount of money over the long haul. What you have is as good as it gets I/M/O. Tossing that balsa comb was a very smart move . Mine was nothing but trouble. Moisture and porous wood do not like each other and moisture wins every time. Upgrading harps as you improve can get expensive.
I am very happy with it so far.
