I read someplace about custom combs that are made thiner so reeds respond sooner? I removed covers of a bluesband C removed nine screws holding reed plates togeather. Packed white sticky tac at the end of 8,9,10 slot to use less air so reeds respond sooner and easier. Yes it works!
The #7 on my BluesBand C stoped playing on the draw. I removed the covers and reed plate then plucked the reed. It made no ping but a dull soft thud. Looked at it very close and could see a residue between the reed and slot where it is close to the rivet! Cleaned it with a tooth pick and a pin! Plays fine now!
Interesting!
Hey Tommy, how interesting, pleasy, can you write or explain “a bit” more, please?!!?
I mean, about the comb work you did for faster playing respond.
Congratulations, and thanks z lot!!!
Jorge.
This link explains the smaller reed chamber helping the subtle change in the effect of harmonica performance.
I would also say before a person does a tweek like mine to practice playing the 7,8,9,10 holes following the instructions from Luke. I found that my newer Special 20 C and Lee Oskar C to play better with a little practice. It was my Marine Band C that seemed tight!
Brendan Power also writes about the size of the reed chamber and why.
