A while back i posted how disappointing it was for me that i could not buy the Joe Filisko Tongue Block Trainer as they do not ship outside of the US. David Kachalon offered to make me one free of charge if i just covered the postage which he duly did and for that he is a true gent! Unfortunately for me I put my new tongue block trainer in my Hohner Rocket case for safe keeping and left it in my car with two other harps which were duly stolen before I’d even had chance to try it. The three harps that were stolen were about £250 in total value but i was more aggrieved at losing the TBT than the harps. After David had been so good to go to the trouble of making one for me i felt i could not impose on his generosity a second time so I’ve struggled on trying to learn tongue blocking without one. But as of today I have another! I am usually so ham fisted in DIY matters that I didn’t trust myself to make my own but today, armed with a plastic milk bottle and a craft knife I had a go and i have to say I’m pretty pleased. It’s probably not as good as David’s but it does the trick. Its pretty simple to do but if anyone outside the US wants to have a go and is unsure of their abilities I’d be happy to share the basic steps I took to make mine.
Oh no! I’m sorry you lost some harps and the tbt. I would certainly make you another.
How does that work?
And I’m really sorry to hear about your harps, I had my mics stolen. It’s not a very pleasant feeling
It’s just a visual aid Andy so that you can stand in front of a mirror and see where you are placing your tongue. For anyone starting out in tongue blocking it’s a useful tool. Luke demonstrates the use of a Joe Filisko Tongue Block Trainer in the tongue blocking module of his B2B course but I believe there are videos on YouTube demonstrating it if you search Joe Filisko Tongue Block Trainer.
Couldn’t you use an old comb cut on half? That’s How I did it?
In half sorry I’ve got the wrong glasses on:roll_eyes:
I guess you could. I suppose most people just starting out (like me) maybe don’t have old combs. I’ve somehow accumulated a lot of harps in a very short space of time but none that I really want to sacrifice. An old milk bottle was cheaper and available.
You can buy a metal combs on Amazon that are replicas of marine band combs they’re about twelve quid and once you’ve used it to train on you could get some plates and build an incredibly bright sounding marine band
I never knew that! Every day is a school day
@Chris3 sorry to hear you were robbed bro!!! DANG IT. So glad that you invested the time in making a TBT. Time, well spent, my friend. That will clear up a lot for ya!!
Maybe removing reeds or reed plates from an old harp.
