Does this really matter…

Like I have said in another post, I have mess with harmonica for years. I have always held the harp with my right hand and with my left I have heard Luke say that it doesn’t matter at first, but does it really matter later on?

Hey Hey @BigPapa great question and I feel the same way

my take is do what works for you and your style

me personally I hold with both hands - that said if I am playing something where I’m doing hand wah and hand vibrato I hold with my left and control my dynamics/embellishments with cupping my right

so does it matter? Depends on the player and how he/she is playing

This is only an opinion - I am far from expert :joy:

I don’t think it matters. If your comfortable with it and can do any technique with your hand position…Who cares?!?!?

What matters is the sound you can get out of your harp. Chase that, and adjust hand/mouth positions accordingly. Have fun with it

@BigPap I will give you @davidkachalon ‘s opinion which is that we play holes 1-6 the most, and holding it with the left hand gives you more ability to color the notes with hand wah better.

That’s one opinion.

I usually hold the harp with one hand, and I switch to the other hand when one hand gets tired. lol.

I use the left to hold the harp but the right is always on to keep the harp from moving, meaning keep it perpendicular to the direction of airflow. The right is for opening and closing opening variations. I am not saying this is correct but feel what you are most comfortable with is the right way. My finger are fairly long and I have to make sure they do not restrict moving from on end of the harp to the other. I place the harp as far back as I can and try to keep is out of the way. I may be completely wrong but it works best for me.
