Favorite harp and why

I’m not keen on Lee Oskars at all I don’t like their tone in fact I’m swapping all mine out for Harmo Polaris they sound amazing

@Luke I know Harpsmith makes a customized SP20 which I may jump on instead of the Rocket. They even open the back up a bit to be more like the Rocket. I will play with the SP20 a little bit more before I make any other big jumps. I am also still waiting on the Golden Melody… somewhat patiently

I might look into the Harmo Polaris @Andy2.

It’s the polar, they are American harps pretty pleased with my G it has a deep rich tone great for Big Walter Horton style blues

That was a spell check error I didn’t pick up on its definitely a polar.

Gotcha @Andy2 spell check can be a nuisance for sure

I wouldn’t bother with the Harmo Polar had to send it back, really bad faulty reed. Luckily I got it off Amazon so I’ll get my money back. But I’m very disappointed

Saga continues, I got my Golden Melody in the mail today and, sorry to those who love them, I am not a fan. Could be the fact it’s the new style, I don’t know. It feels awkward to hold and to play. So, I guess at this point my favorite are the Lee Oskar and Special 20. The special 20 is nice because people readily customize them like Joe Spiers and Harpsmith. So for me, Special 20 for the win with Lee Oscar right there. I enjoy playing the 20 and LO the same to be honest. Don’t forget, I am still new at this but this is what I have found from the Easttop, Rocket, Golden Melody, Sp20, and Lee Oskar. Time to add some SP20 different keys…

On it being awkward to hold, that was the reason why I was initially cold towards the new model. Especially since the divet in the center back being marketed towards me, by Steve Baker, as a place to hold your fingers at. He got offended by my criticism especially since I said that it sounded like the reasons why he “loves” the new GM sounds like he was sucking up to the company he works for, instead of a place of genuine love, as he does work for Hohner. And he also views other criticisms of the new model as being “wrong”. So he left a very sour taste in my mouth for the new model.

At some point I will find an older style one and give it a go but for me this was so off the mark that I put it back in its box and put it on the dresser and will probably never touch it again.

Initially I liked the Polar’s design and at first it played well, then I was getting reed rattle on reed 1 at the time I wasn’t sure it was the 1st reed so as I was trying to make sure the reed rattled like hell, I took off the covers the Reed had been badly spot welded it was extremely loose unrepairable. Very, very disappointed. I will get my money back from Amazon but I won’t be taking a chance on Harmo harmonica’s again. I may try a golden melody but what your saying about the new design I may not bother. I might try a cross harp instead. To be honest I hated the original model cross harp, but I was fairly new to playing then, and was under the illusion that a more expensive harp would give me a better playing experience I was wrong. I switch to a Hohner SP 20 and I’ve never really looked back. I still believe they are the best harp for the money, I believe they are better than some of the more expensive harps

Hey @Luke ! Totally stoked to get it. He told me 6-8 weeks. So I will have to practice my patience which I have none of haha. I’m sure it will be worth the wait though. Will def do an update once I have it in my hands. :sunglasses:

Ooooh. You’re lucky! Sometimes his turnaround time can be as long as 6 months! Average is probably 3! :flushed:

I just received my new rocket -standard model grey comb. I already had a couple of rocket amps. From comments that I’ve read, I was expecting it to be as ugly as a robber’s dog but now that I have it, I think it looks better than the special 20, which is not saying much but there you are, it looks Ok to me. I haven’t yet noticed a difference in sound to the amp, but I like having the different model. As @HarpinBobbyMcB has previously opined, it’s easy to grab the key that you want when it’s clearly a different harmonica. Love my rockets.

Well, I am very beginner level, but I really like the Bushman Game Changer. I almost play it exclusively. My second favorite is my Lee Oskar.
