Gear lessons

Hay guys, i was wondering if there are any lessons on how to play with a mic? How to choose the right amp and why and how to pedals… maybe talk our trusted harmonica teacher to add a few modules? Maybe add a quick lesson on gig etiquette? Whats your thoughts?

I am soo green, I dont know the difference…

That’s ok! We all were once!

Were you planning on using a vocal style mic that sits in a mic stand?

I have only used one once at an open jam. The bullet style sounded better but was hard for me to hold and impossible for me to hand wah.

I’ve seen people recommend playing with a small glass or cup to get used to the holding something whilst you’re playing.

Amp wise is very dependant on budget and aspirations - however, you don’t need to spend a lot of money to get started, a cheap solid state guitar paractice amp will do the job and it doesn’t need to be a valve amp (tube amp), yes, tubes are nice but essential.

Mic wise, I’m sure there’s plaenty on the forum that have better adivce than me, I got a cheapo bullet mic (Superlux) and am playing through a cheap electric guitar practice amp.

There’s a few decent videos on youtube about getting started.

@lasersolutionswi Yeah you can’t hand wah playing amplified the way you can acoustic. The Dyna-Mic has created a cool solution to that, and also eliminated the need to get an airtight grip, and reduces feedback, and it also can plug straight into a PA, but it ain’t cheap! Check it out:

@davidkachalon has given a nice list of gig etiquette here:

I love the Jason Ricci mic, and largely cuz it’s much more comfy to hold for me than a bullet, and I love how the volume knob is positioned for my intuitive use of it.
