Yes indeed, talented singers, beautiful voices, and lessons to be learned from them.
Susan Tedeschi is another great one! Checkout “midnight in harlem” by the tedeschi trucks band. Either the record version, or live you cant go wrong. Derek trucks, their slide player emulates Susan’s voice beautifully in his playing as well.
In terms of female singers, or just singers in general, I really love voices that are either deep and/or raspy. If they have a higher pitched singing voice, I wouldn’t mind them only if they sing extremely high. That last part is mainly as a result of what I call my “low voice angst”. I naturally have a deep, raspy voice and I absolutely hate the idea pushed online that someone’s worth as a singer is determined by their vocal range and how high they can sing.
I was influenced by the internet at a time where people said “everybody can sing with whistle tones, you just have to practice”, so I’d thought that I’ll never be a good singer because I don’t have a wide vocal range to be considered as such. That’s not true at all since a lot of vocalists with 3-4 octave vocal ranges, past and present, who are considered by many to be excellent singers.
In terms of female singing voices, I love contraltos like Nina Simone and Tracy Chapman. Those two have deeper timbres than the majority of women, so deep to the point where you could mistake them for guys when you hear them for the first time. But their voices sound so pleasing to my ears, especially Tracy Chapman.
Sade, Stevie Nicks.
Both of you have great taste imo!
Happy Valentines to all the Romantics out there.
She’s wonderful. Great song too.
