Have read some reviews as to how many prefer the older version of the Golden Melody (Model 542PBX) over the newer version (Model 544BX) so I took it upon myself to see if I could build the older model in the key of C from new parts. Between Hohnershop and Rockin Rons I was able to purchase all new parts for the build: reed plates, comb, covers, screws and even the older plastic box. It was somewhat of an expensive venture as building from parts can really add up. Granted, you can find the older model for sale on eBay but they’re obviously used and most, if not all, look rather nasty. They do have some new ones available for sale on Harmonicaland but they’re very expensive and the one in the key of C is selling for $349.90! So, with that, my expenditure was extremely meager in comparison. Sounds great and lovin it!

I have been interested in getting a Golden Melody as well, may I ask how much you paid for parts. So I can determine weather I want to build it like you did or try to get one on ebay.

Hi Moman,
It’s been a few months since the build but as I recall the expenditure was around $8O+ for all the parts. Good luck with the build if you decide to do so. ![]()
