So I read the thread that @cloves-fibs0f started regarding changing your user name . So I was thinking …… how did you pick your username / handle ? I bet theres some interesting stories ahead . Me ??
I retired as a p/t Animal Control Officer at my local Police Department . About 30 years ago a friend for some reason decided to call me “ Thunder “ and it stuck . It was even under my name in quotations on my business card …lol . One time a lady called the PD and asked “ do you have an offer Thunder that works there ? “ ..lol . The dispatcher replied “ yea , and sometimes we call him other things too …lol
I can’t remember the original reason, but my ex and my kids have always called me Curly. When I became a grandfather, I got to choose my grandfather name: Pop, gramps, granddad etc. I chose ‘Papa’, and I became Papa Curly. In hindsight, I should not have used it on the forum, because AI now picks up on everything I’ve ever said on the forum and provides a profile. I haven’t told any lies, and I think Ive always been polite, so I don’t have anything to be ashamed of, but it did shock me to make that discovery. It’s a bit of a cautionary tale; I should have used something anonymous. (Sword of Justice) It’s the same for my real name, if I search my name, it seems that everything about me that has ever appeared on the net is there to see. We need to be careful what we say!
I use my real first name. I was named after my grandfather, who in turn was named after his father. My great-grandfather really liked the name of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and that’s how my grandfather got it. My grandfather played the violin his entire life
My user name is a memorial to my black lab Mahitable. We were inseparable and I still miss her everyday. Anyway I was working as a baker and decided that I wanted to experiment with a cheesecake recipe. The recipe required a timed water bath and to turn off the oven and let the cheesecake sit in the oven for another hour to let it finish. I got a late start and after I turned off the oven I didn’t think much about it. I was getting ready to go to bed and realized that Mahitable was not with me in the living room so I got up to see what she was up to. She was sitting in front of the oven!! I had forgotten all about the cheesecake! I looked at her and just started laughing-she saved the cheesecake and became known as the baking black dog! And by the way, the cheesecake was absolutely delicious and I still use the recipe!
Very True. My user name is simply first name plus initial of family name. David plus my family name make a very common combination, so here are thousands of (not really) me out there. Many are of a similar age since David was a very popular boys name back then. As a teenager there was a kid just a couple of years younger at the same school as me with the same first and last names and same middle initial. He wasn’t at all related. That caused confusion on a number of occasions…
Actually I’m Donald F. Coppock II (the second) so I have often used “dfcii” as a user name. And, I’m a little embarrassed to say this, but I’ve used “HarpoonDon” also.
As did I … and still do at 67 yrs old . It’s actually Americas oldest hobby too . My grandfather got me into it as a kid . Kids today just wouldn’t understand
“KeroroRinChou” was a username I had long before I joined the forum. It originally started out as a username I had on the Smule app. I chose the name as a referrence to one of my favorite shows at the time, Sgt. Frog, an anime about a group of frog-like aliens trying to takeover the world and ending up failing. The main character of the show, Sgt. Keroro, would sometimes say “kero rin cho” in his dialogue in the original Japanese version of the show, so I combined that with the character’s name to get KeroroRinChou. The meme posting Youtube channel I have used to be called this until last May when I changed it to “KeroPants” because I thought that sounded funnier and less weeb-ish.
If I could change my username on the forum, I’d probably go with SuperSonicHarmonica, which is my Spotify username. The “harmonica” part is obvious as I play the harmonica, but the “supersonic” part comes from my favorite video game franchise, Sonic the Hedgehog. Specifically Sonic’s transformed super form when all of the chaos emeralds have been collected in the game. Think of Goku’s super saiyan form in Dragon Ball. So I combined my two favorite things, harmonica and Sonic the Hedgehog, to make my Spotify username.
Mine’s easy enough, around 15 years ago I worked at a fancy relaix chateaux as a concierge. My GM an excitable Roman man with a love of ‘powdered donuts’ Started calling me Ryno, which eventually turned into Rynus, which turned into full blown RynoSaurusRex during an evening of too many “powdered donuts” he was quite fond of me and I accepted the names as my little keepsake when I left that job.
my next job, eventually I started getting called Ryno, same after that, and the next one etc
@RynoSaurusRex That’s quite a name you’ve got there. Aside from the spelling variation from Rhino, I believe it translates to Nose lizard king. Apparently, that’s what powdered donuts will do to you.
Fairly newly together with my beloved and we made some chille.
And it was really good.
and I ate…a wee tad more than my share of the chille. As a result of the chille incident I became piglet. and ave used that online for usernames a few places since then. It helps that I kinda have the build to be a piglet.
