Hello all. Chris here, from Monterey, California. I’m a 73 year old newbie to the wonderful world of harmonica. I play some ukulele, probably intermediate level, but guess I needed something even more portable. Somehow, luckily, I found this site. I ordered a Hohner Special 20, key of C and recently started the B2B course. Only 8 lessons in, I’m already digging it. Luke is definitely making it fun and keeping me motivated

I’m taking it nice and easy. I even read all the comments after each lesson. Looking forward to the journey.

Hi,
I did the course a few years ago and haven’t stopped playing since. I got heaps from it and occasionally go back for a refresh or to look up one of the many tunes in the backing tracks section.
Searching on the forum will bring up lots of answers from the experts that lurk around on the forum.
I hope you post some of your playing on the what tune are you working on topic when you feel ready.
Welcome

@mxphil23 Wooo hooo! So stoked. I was just recently staying in Carmel by the Sea for my friend’s (who is originally from Monterey) wedding. The ceremony was in Big Sur at a producer’s house named Jeff Bhasker (you can Google him if you want) right near Pfeifer beach. It was absolutely STUNNING. The studio was AMAZING.

I’m so glad you’re digging the course Chris! Thanks for reading the comments. I think it’s so rich, like a classroom discussion deepens the knowledge of a subject so much.

Rock on! :sunglasses:

Hi, I’m Olaf Böhme from Germany, playing for more than 45 years and teaching harmonica for about 30 years. I’m also a selfpublisher of several Harmonica books, that you can easily find on Amazon.

I’m Johnny from Cheyenne, Wyoming. I’m taking online lessons here on harmonica.com because it’s time I lock down a musical skill, and YouTube plus a handful of lesson books just aren’t making that happen.

In my career as a teacher, I’ve known a few guys who could knock out :birthday: “Happy Birthday” on a harmonica, but nothing else. We just lost our associate principal (to a promotion ), who would play “Happy Birthday” for staff and students. I thought it’d be cool if I could take his place at the start of next school year because it was always a nice gesture.

But I don’t want to stop there. I really want to learn some blues tunes :sunglasses: so I can play at the Lincoln Theater (our local music venue) jam nights. There are just too many of my buddies who have a musical skill, and I want to jump in with them.

Hi Luke,
The Monterey County coastline really is breathtaking. I’m very lucky to live in this area. I did look up Jeff Bhasker. Wow. What a resume! The studio In Big Sur has gotta be AMAZING. That must’ve been a thrill.

I’m still plugging away at the B2B course. Working on articulation. I’ll keep u posted.

Bluemoose (Dustin) from Oregon here. I’ve been working my way through Beginner to Boss since the beginning of February and am just finishing the Intro to Bending module. I’ve always been around music and even “played” a few instruments in the past, but now in my mid-forties the harmonica is the first one I’ve done for pure enjoyment, and it’s been amazing! Luke, you are a gifted teacher, and I enjoy every lesson. I’m going to be sad to finish the course, but excited about continuing to learn and (I hope) give others joy though the harp.

@olafboehme welcome to the forum my friend. Happy to have you here! I perused your guide book and it looks very thorough! Wonderful. Looking forward to your input here as well.

@JohnnyMercer love the goal. Playing in front of people in any way shape or form accelerates your growth, so Rock on! :sunglasses: You got this! :facepunch:t3:

@mxphil23 Awesome, Chris. Keep it up!

@djrmoose Hey Dustin so awesome man. Glad you’re digging the course. Congratulations on your progress! Thank you for your kind words. I really appreciate it! Rock on! :sunglasses:

TL;DR - Advanced Beginner, new to Forum. Thanks Luke, hello everyone. Love the HARP! :grinning:

Hello Luke and everyone else  Retired IT/Business Instructor, husband, father, longtime “passable” guitar and bluegrass banjo player from Newfoundland Canada. Pretty new to harp. (owned a few for years but never really played them).

Two or three years ago I’m at our annual family reunion. I play banjo with some very talented cousins in a sort of informal “family-function” band. I’d sit out a lot of songs where banjo didn’t fit. Then my bandmates played “Roadhouse Blues” and “On the Road Again”. Another talented family member did “Ain’t No Sunshine”.

And the light bulbs went off! I could play harmonica along with those!! How cool would that be?!? Got a Special 20 and a few Easttop T008Ks.

Got hooked. LOVE this instrument! And yes, I DID play Roadhouse Blues the next year, and it was sooo much fun! Can’t devote the time I should to it, but I’m enjoying the playing and my gradual progress.

Always have my ears open for good harp tunes, and a favorite tune of mine, Ashokan Farewell, got on my radar. I quickly realized it needed an overblow. I made quick inroads on that, but I knew it would take some time to master it. So I started looking at chromatic harmonicas. Just to reach that ONE note on that ONE song

So this Christmas I got an Easttop Forerunner 2.0 and I’m totally in love with this thing. A different instrument in many ways. So beautiful, especially for classical and jazz. (Neither of which I can play very well yet  )

Anyway, long bio, but there ya go.

I am of course in the bigger FB harp groups, but there’s still something special about forums for some reason. So here I am. Thanks for doing this for the community Luke, and thanks for all I’ve learned from you on YouTube etc. You’re one of the best.

Hi,
Great to have another musician here. There are more and more musicians looking for somewhere BS and advertisement free. I am a very novice player who plays only for my own stress relief and occasionally causing stress to neighbors.
Hope you enjoy and contribute to the forum. Don’t be shy.

“Stress to neighbors”
Yeah, I wonder if there is or will be a resurgence of interest in forums. I used to spend a lot of time on the “Banjo Hangout” but not as much recently.
Thanks for the welcoming message.

Hello everyone,

I have always loved listening to the harmonica and wanted to play! I was discouraged as a kid and finally got the courage to try again. I’ve learned how to play cowpoke and house on the rising sun pretty well. There is a song my wife loves and I could use some experienced ears to help me figure out the tabs.

The song is It’s a long way to wheelwright by Nicholas Jamerson.

These things are fun but kinda hard

Anywho thanks for hearing me talk with you all soon.

@RCashin welcome to the forum. So glad to have you here my friend! Wonderful share. You might consider picking up a Natural Minor harmonica for Ain’t No Sunshine. Really fun harp tune!

@Jcdom welcome to the forum! Have you tried harptabs.com? That’s always a good place to check first. Rock on! :sunglasses:
