Is there a way to smooth cover plates?

I recently got two paddy richter tuned easttop 008ks, and interestingly enough the D harp has a perfectly fine smooth coverplate, but the G harp has a different type of paint on the cover plate or something. It’s like the numbers and the design on the cover plate protrude very, very, very slightly and create slight friction when I try to slide my lips, which is the last thing I want when trying to play fast celtic tunes.

Is there a way I could go about smoothing the cover plate? is it as simple as just sanding it maybe? Any help is appreciated, because other than the drag feeling on my lips, the harp is fine.

Assume they were new either contact the seller or failing that email Easttop at easttop@vip.163.com and tell them the problem they should send you new coverplates if you haven’t tried to butcher the originals. Jay1

I would try some 1,600 wet and dry sand paper. I use it to check if my reed plates are straight. Steel wool would be my second choice used lightly. I also have trouble with lip grab as the humidity here is very low and things like Chapstick do not work as it gets viscous over a short period of time. Hope this helps.
