Any recommendations as to which Key Harmonica to get in an effort to learn songs?
Key of C and Key of A are extremely common.
Remember each harp can play multiple keys with some skills.
I have harps in the keys of: C, A, and G. Looking for the next key to complete the set.
D, F or hearing good things about Bb
Well, what do you want to play?
D is another very common key. F sounds different. Bb is good for Jazz.
I recommend you go to Harptabs.com and use the search function for each key and see what music interests you the most.
As a sidenote, if you are going with F maybe go with a low F? (in my case I went with an easttop low F which I consider more of a low-ish F)
A,C and G are a good start
C is very common for starting and lots of teaching material is for C harmonicas (the lessons are transferable but a lot of play along stuff will made for C)
G and D are my favorites and pop up in folk a lot.
A is good sounding and 2nd position puts you on the e-blues scale which is handy for guitar.
@Markdlg4 are you playing mostly in 2nd position? If so, F is good cos you can play in key of C, a very common key. It’s also very high, and at some point you’ve got to get used to what that feels like and sounds like.
Luke: I got a Hohner Rocket in the Key of Bb. I completed your Beginner to Boss training modules but I need to go over some Modules a second time. No more Harmonica purchases as my collection is complete- Golden Melody key of C, Lee Oskar key of A, Crossover key of G, and lastly the Rocket in Bb
