Low tuned harps

I love low and low-low harps. But not satisfied with the “feel” of my Seydel…cover plates are too thick in my opinion. So I’ve ordered regular 1847’s from R-Ron and hope they work. Or perhaps just replace the bottom-or top- plates? Freddy

I know what you mean about the Seydel . What do you mean by “ regular “ ? Standard tuning or standard size ? I too enjoy a low / low low but the prices are up there especially Hohner ( Thunderbird ) Have you tried the Hohner Rocket Low ?- curious on your thoughts . Thanks

The plates are thick/high to give the long, low-tuned reeds space to swing without hitting the cover plates. If you do not play loudly then “normal” plates can work.

@Wackerle yeah there’s a good chance you might get the reeds hitting the cover plates with smaller ones.

The Thunderbird is such a cool design cos they made the plates bigger only on the low reed side. They’re my favorite low tuned harps.

I was referring to the “thick” reed cases on the low low Seydels that I find cumbersome in my mouth. So I got some regular size cases from Rockin Ron, and replaced the top case, which helped somewhat. I tried to replace the lower case, but as expected the low reeds made contact. I listen to “Orange Man Blues” by Annie Raines, she does a duet with a low harp that’s fantastic. Meanwhile, I bought some Harmo Rover low harps, that sound terrific. Also have some low Rockets.
