Hi,
I am using some functions of SheetMusicDirect to help me learn the vocals for a new song. I have purchased the song and am able to play it at half speed whilst viewing the lyrics and score, and emphasise the audio of the vocal part (melody).
I can also transpose the score in to other keys.
Should I match the key of the score to the key I am playing the harp in?
My guess is yes.
So if I am playing my C diatonic in second position I need to transpose the score to G, and if I am playing on my C diatonic I need to transpose it to D?
The tabs I am using are from an A diatonic in second postion, but my understanding is that I can still use them.
Thanks very much for your help!
Can you just check this. I can’t follow it?
My apologies for the message being unclear.
I am trying to train my ears.
I want the sound produced by the Sheet Music Direct programme to match the sound produced by my harmonica.
If I play in second position the key is not the same as the key of the harmonica.
A C harmonica in second position produces sound in the key of G.
So if I wanted to make the sounds coming out of the Sheet Music Direct programme the same as the harmonica, I would have to make them play in the key of G too.
If I used a G harmonica, I would have to make the Sheet Music Direct programme produces sound in the key of D, because that’s the key of second position in a G harmonica.
I think.
@russell.tim28 - Yes, you’ve got it correct! So if using your A harmonica in 2nd position, you’d want the score to play in the key of E
Yep you got it.
Thanks everyone.
Great to have confirmation!
