How about using this thread to post links to yourself just jamming along to a (perhaps favorite) backing track?
Don’t forget to acknowledge the creator of the backing track used. Also provide any other information that might interest your audience, such as the key of the music or the harp used, the position that you are playing with your harp, etc, etc.
To get this rolling, here is a link to me playing a Yonberg D2 harmonica in the key of A and using 2nd position (i.e. I’m playing in the key of E). The backing track is from MCCD Sessions, which is a fantastic source for backing tracks in all keys, styles and tempos !!
Several years ago, there was a site that you could do just what you are suggesting. In fact, I made at least 100 backing tracks and so did some other folks, and players from all over the world would play to and upload their “song”. Those that wished to, could comment on them. The site was around for quite a few years.
Nice tune. Great idea for a thread however This is not a link to a site its data to download. I haven’t heard of this storage site? I would prefer to access a site by link not download unknown stuff? Say YouTube or dropbox google drive or similar where just access the file but you don’t actually download it. .
Here is a recording of the standard “Moon River” that I made using a Trochilus Pop Tuning harp in the key of C, played in first position. The backing track is from Paul Lassey.
Here’s a recording I recorded 3/3/93. Recorded to a jam track from Jazz Player Magazine. Named Blues in F or something like that. I believe this is a Bflat harp. but haven’t checked recently. It’s a bit rough because it wasn’t polished, but I had fun recording it, and still enjoy listening to it even today.
This is the second take. If you listen closely you’ll hear feedback at the end of the first phrase. Had to open my cup and tweak the volume of the Astatic crystal mic down just a hair. Later on, during one of the improvised chorus lines that is repeated, at 2:09, I incurred spit on one of my reeds. I had to dance around that issue and it threw off my timing a bit–but I worked it out and finished the recording.
Again, once I could improvise, and I wasn’t playing on stage, this was one of my favorite ways to enjoy practicing harp. After over 20 years on stage, and I haven’t played much since 2006, I would now prefer recording at home to playing on stage.
Hope this link works. Hope you enjoy this home recording.
Cool Jam! I recognize that backing track from Jamey Aebersold. It was called Mr. Super Hip from the backing track CD “Nothin’ but Blues” Yup, key of F.
Yeah, that’s it. I think i still have that CD, if my ex-wife didn’t keep it. Glad you reminded me. I would have been digging through my old jazz player magazines, which i recall contained jam tracks but maybe not. Honestly, i have not recorded to jam tracks since 1993. But they were a great source of satisfaction, and had grooves much better than those found on the stage in my town. Thanks again!
