Metronome Practice

Does anyone else have difficulty using a Metronome. Mine is coordination.

Which ways do you use the Metronome. Could you give any examples.

Yes, I do. I find that I tend to focus too much on the metronome and lose focus on the music, and it all goes downhill from there. I try to just use the metronome as a background tool and not overfocus on playing exactly with it. It helps a bit, I’m still far from perfect. Timing is probably my worst thing.

Not just me then.

I tend to listen to the song and learn it well enough to be able to sing or hum it, then I have the basic rhythm down. Then I can usually play from there.

I practiced guitar/ harp together for almost 20 years before I started using a metronome…now 25 years later…I’m really glad I did. I started listening more and could enjoy playing much more…

The only way I have used a metronome is the practice blowing a note -any note- in agreement with the ticking of the metronome over a period of time.

I honestly have a hard time following the metronome while playing actual music.

I tend to do what you do but I’d like to get into metronome work. my coordination is a bit crap.

@Dai good for you for working with a metronome! I used to think mine was broken! But now I LOVE the metronome.

Sooooo many people can’t play with a metronome. But my favorite musicians can.

I use it like this: Develop REAL GROOVE (Metronome Pro Tips)

I use it ALL the time. It exposes all these things I wouldn’t be aware of without it.

This is the best way to learn to play with the metronome:

Hope that helps. Rock on! :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:
