My "mod" to make the Easttop "beard-safe"

Greetings all! So I got my first pair of easttops from *trumpvoice" China, and I really like them! However, as was mentioned in some other reviews and as I’ve experienced personally, they have a way of snagging beard-hairs. I attribute this oversight to the Chinese having way less facial hair and this not being an issue there.

However, I’ve come up with a solution!
What you do is, you take a toothpick and some silicone sealant (the type used for bathrooms/in construction - just make sure yours is water resistant). Then, get just a tiny smidgeon of it on the toothpick and apply it where it snags your beard to fill-in/gunk up those parts. Make sure to use a super-small amount, and of course none of it should go anywhere near the actual reeds.

  • in case anyone has concerns due to the "chemicals’ or whatever, just relax and remember you are already using an easttop, which has that weird paint taste
  • if you are worried about the “appearance”, unless you are literally handing someone over the harmonica for close inspection, no one will notice. Also, the tradeoff of it not eating your beard hairs is well worth it.
  • after you filled in the crevices, wipe off the excess and leave it to dry for like a day or so.

hope this will help someone!

I just trim my top lip, but the one I’ve got is a bit of a nipper, I just assumed it was poor tolerance on the cover edge so it’s not sitting straight on the reed plate. Glad it’s not just me.

That Easttop taste is so bad though. I’ve no idea what it is but it icks me every time I play it.

Dental wax also works. As does shaving off your facial hair and looking ten years young does

I actually considered using dental wax (the type for braces) but didn’t have it nearby- great minds think alike! The only risk with it would be that it’d eventually melt away or something

I use beeswax pellets / pastilles. They are cheap, easy to get on Amazon, and easy to apply.

They also have 1 ingredient: beeswax.

dental wax. Higher melting point than Beeswax, I think.

I got some silver sealing wax to fix a Bushman harp that was snagging my mustache hairs. I removed the cover plate and filled in the gaps. The Bushman is stianless steel so the silver worked well. Maybe you can get some black or blue sealing wax, depending on your Easttop.

Another more permanent option is miliput or green stuff modelling clay used in military modelling ( I used to be a modeller) it’s dries as hard as steel can be drilled sanded and painted. You can get chrome colored modelling paint to hide it too
