I got a special 20 customized by Kinya, Harpsmith owner. today. I finally found a harp that plays single notes as easily as my Oskar and sound good as Crossoves while playing a melody. Hard to beat this quality of work.
Nice @Scott4 so glad to hear it! How much did that bad boy set you back?
All things considered about $180. It is easier to bend a note on this harp than a cheap piece of steel. Key is A and I am used to Crossovers so getting used to a slightly different cover plate will take a week or so. It is very easy to play any note and it is set up just right. I’ll have it in San Antonio. Kinya can set a harp up right. When I spoke to him he was going over a harp that will be played this coming Saturday on Saturday Night live. Cannot remember the musician but he will have a great harp to play. What I also like is I can now try to lay more blues as the -1 through -4 draws that are played rapidly in succession easily. I am sending him my crossovers to get them checked out. They play well but not like a harp Kinya has set up.
Nice! I was bouncing between getting one from him or Joe Spiers and ended up going with Joe. I like the fact he rounds the corners too. Now I just need to wait for it. How long was the lead time for harpsmith?
@scott4 I’m guessing it might be for Ross Garren who I believe will be playing with Timothée Chalomet promoting the new Bob Dylan movie, A Complete Unknown.
It was about two weeks from the time I ordered it. He is a very nice and through person. My crossovers are going over to him for a tune up. He was working on a harp that will be seen on SNL Saturday night so mine was next. Cannot blame him at all and he was straightforward about it.
I might order a sp20 G from him and then I can sort of compare Joe’s and his.
I’ll know Saturday. I have heard that this movie is a good one and have to wait till its on cable.
Luke a ? Will there be a session at SPAH on music theory? Its starting to make sense but I could use a lesson. I am a steam train nerd and will be at the train gathering. That A will fit right in.
Scott
I think you will be pleased with the harp and the way he does business.
I’ll find out. Hmmmm…maybe I should teach a beginner music theory class.
Here’s Ross Garren playing with Timothée Chalamet on SNL, who Kinya was making the harp for:
Probably @Luke. Music theory is challenging to pick up just off the internet, and it is very helpful.
I am sending Kinya a couple of Crossovers to go over. He does things right and even though both harps play well there is always room for improvement.
As far as music theory I would sign up. Its coming slowly but like a train the beginning is the toughest and the more I get the more it starts to fit together. How about a class at SPAH?
@Luke That dude was wailing on the harmonica in the beginning. Did you see Timothee strumming on the guitar but not playing any cords or anything?
Yeah, seemed it was basically a prop. Looked cool tho! And he shreds the guitar in the movie!
