Ok so my very talented cousin said the mouth organ, ya we country;, is easiest instrument to learn. Then he passed too soon to ask about the key. I believe I have a Horner C and i just feel like its too high at the lowest note. So.as a newbie do I go to G?. Im learning on my own. Feel I can learn by ear but dont like and not comfortable with my C. Help
First off please don’t call it a mouth organ! A mouth organ is your tongue and you use it to play. What do you want to know?
Hey @Donatella !! Most online lessons and lessons for beginners are done in C as far as I know. Feel free to get as many other keyed harmonicas as you want though! the 1 hole own a C harmonica is pretty low though. The higher notes 8-10 are pretty dang high though. Search YouTube for free lesson or sign up to do lessons on this site with @Luke , his are very easy to follow. I you are super county/hillbilly, you can get Juzzie Smiths lessons($40 for the whole thing) and use that. I have used both Luke’s lessons and Juzzie’s and I enjoy both. Luke’s lessons have gotten me pretty far in only 7 weeks. Good luck! Practice practice practice!
@Donatella WELCOME to the forum! To confirm the key of your harp, the key letter should be stamped on the top cover plate on one of the sides. Is it in fact a a C?
If it is a C and it’s as shrill to your ears as you say, then sure, by all means grab a G, you should love the nice mellow! But keep the C as all beginner lessons are for C harmonica.
