Hello there. I start playing last year. Following the suggestions I started with a cheap diatonic C, choosing a Fender Blues de Luxe. This harmonica is consistent with Luke’s review, and is the model which result in best sounds for me. After arrive in level 5 of the Beginner to Boss training, I decided to invest in a more expensive instrument and I choose a Fender Blues de Ville. Again, a high quality instrument, the difference in the sound is giant (my wife asked if I was playing or watching Luke’s class.
I am very satisfied, but I wonder if you have different experiences with other brands to recommend.
I like my Seydel session steels, but they seem to have a marmite reputation and there’s a lot of folks don’t like them and don’t recommend them. I think they sound great and what I like as a good firm “push back” a lot of players would call unresponsive.
Lee Oscar and Hohner Special 20 get recommended a lot, along with the hohner marine band, but I can’t speak to them myself having not played them. Hohner make a large amount of upgrade models of the SP20 and Marine band as well.
I can recommend Easttop T008k as cheap harmonica, but they’re probably no better than the Fender you already have.
Are both your fenders in C? the other thing to think about is trying a different key.
Thank you for the suggestions. I have the Fender Blues de Lux in C and A, the Fender DeVille C. I had a Horner Marine but for me the Fender looked easy to learn and gave me a best response in the sound. I will look for the EastTop 008, thx
East Tops have improved incredibly since they first hit the market, I bought one a few weeks ago as I use them as practice and back up harps. Every not high to low played perfectly from the box, that was never always the case, the high notes at one time had to be gapped by yourself to improve them. I never had to touch it, the reed plates where absolutely flat and airtight ( which I’ve never had with more reputable brands!) I was blown away by the quality of this 008k I think the Chinese are taking on board criticism and making a better harp. If you’re a beginner well worth a try and when you get your wings and start to fly get a more expensive one.
Yeah @scucugliam if you like the DeVille, you’ll probably like the 008k. To me they’re the same harp, but you save a lot of money on the EastTop!
Hi scucugiam,
