Playing live with Band and Volume

I play electric guitar and I play harp solos while I play with band. I use my vocal mic and I seem lose the harp in the mix unless I cup the mic, which isn’t practical as a guitarist. Naturally, Not being able to hear makes soloing difficult.
Has anyone ran into this and what solution did you use?

It’s the nature of the beast. There are gadgets that cover the harp and mic but I’ve never seen a hands free one. You may as many have done have to choose whether you want to play harp or guitar. If you want to play guitar get a good harp player if you want to play harp get a good guitarist.

@Dboone - welcome to the forum! I’m quite behind here. Sorry for the long delay in getting back to ya.

So you’re using a neck rack? If so, then you definitely wanna check out the Racket 2.0:

I don’t like playing on a rack. I use a looper pedal on solo/duo gigs and then hold the mic. So if I need to cup the vocal mic a little bit in order to get the volume right, I can.

If I was playing in a trio, I’d probably just drop out on guitar and play the harmonica rather than play on a rack.

I’m thinking about picking up a Dyna-Mic at some point, and I know it’s inventor is working on some kind of rack for that which will be super-adjustable, so I’m not saying I’ll never play on a rack again. I’m open to it. But right now I rarely do!

I do use racks occasionally when I’m playing acoustic at church.

Hope that helps!
