I have a Hohner Special 20 in the Key of C and love it. Looking to get a Lee Oskar in a few months, but I am unsure as to what Key to purchase it in. I’m looking for that rich, deep, “Warm” Harmonica sound.
Any advise

Hi @Markdlg4
I like A G
I play a few folky songs in G on guitar so G first position serves well has a nice rich sound.
I also like A minor funk for improvisation and 3rd position on a G is Am and I like the sound better than Am 4th position on a C
I also like A harp because E is 2nd position a lot of guitarists use E/E7 for blues. There are a lot of songs in A straight as well. Take me home country road is one that comes to mind.
The other thing I like about A and G. Some songs on the upper register of C get too shrill. Amazing Grace comes to mind - sounds much better on a G than C in my opinion.
To sum it up A or G harps should give you that rich deep sound and open you up to other keys for 2nd, 3rd and 4th position
Hope that helps
Best
Mike
@Markdlg4 welcome to the forum! Glad to have ya here. Yes, I agree with Mike. I was gonna suggest either A or G as well. Rock on!
My favorite is a Lee Oskar in ‘A’. Very easy to play.
I like G also. My most used harmonica…
Like others - my favorite key is “G”. Very low and warm tone, easy for bending.
Well I got the Lee Oskar in Key of A. I’m liking it but from the posts below I’m thinking I should have gotten the Key of G. Hoping I can find enough songs to play. Thank you all for your support.
Bb is my favorite of the low keys. While not as low as an A or G, it’s still just a responsive as a C harp without losing a lot of lower range.
Nah, don’t listen to those crazy G people, its A for me, followed closely by Bb. You will find plenty of songs to play. Actually, the G harp does sound nice, but I find it more difficult to play. Feels like it needs more air and is not as responsive, that’s the way it is for me anyway.
Thanks Papa C
