I am a beginner, but want to expand beyond my Special 20 C harmonica. I only plan to play for myself, and I’m thinking of buying a nice G harmonica.
I was thinking perhaps a Seydel 1847.
Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you are happy with and like your special 20 I would stick to it.
I also like ROCKETS.
I’m also relatively new also and purchased a Seydel 1847 Classic out of curiosity. As of now it’s just sitting on the side as I found it to be much more difficult to play than my Special 20, or any of the other harp’s that I have. If you want to go a different route I’d also suggest a Rocket or a Suzuki Manji Sky, which I really, really enjoy playing.
Crossover or a Rocket. My Crossover G plays very well and bends easy. They may cost more but over the long haul buying the best harp you can will be the best choice. Starter harps plus the cost of a nice harp when you want to upgrade result in more $ spent.
I really like the Seydel 1847 Noble and the 1847 Classic models. It is strange how some people find the Seydel stainless steel reeds difficult to play, others (such as myself) notice no difference. I would also add, however, that you should avoid the Seydel Session Steel harps – the 1847s are far better harps and worth the extra money.
Thanks everyone.
My favorite G are Golden Melodies from Hohner. New model “progressive” is pretty cool.
Seydel 1847 Classics are my fav, but I personally would take a Marine Band Deluxe instead.
Thanks everyone.
Luke, I assume you recommend the Marine Band Deluxe as it’s a bit easier for a beginner. What makes the Seydel Classic your favourite?
No, I personally like the Marine Band Deluxe better than the 1847 Classic (I like the sound/feel of brass better than steel.)
The 1847 Classic is the most responsive and bendable of the Seydels in my experience.
I’ve been playing for around 2 years now. My first purchase was a Eastop in the key of G and I’ve been very happy with it. I’ve since bought the same harp in different keys. I’m not certain what price a middle of the road harp should be but I buy these on Amazon for $50 plus. Not sure how good these are but they have satisfied my needs.
