Reed sticking during song

Have you ever had a reed stick while playing? Is there a way around that or quick fix where the audience does not notice?

Nope! IT JUST SUCKS!!! If soloing, probably avoiding it for the rest of the solo is the best plan. Then turn away from the mic and blow and draw furiously until it come unstuck.

Luke’s method is fine. Sometimes reed is lightly sticked. That can be heard: lightly sticked reed is playing but silent and ugly. Then You can add to Your solo some un-stick notes. For example. If some reed in 4th channel is sticked You can add to Your blues solo this: -4 -4’ 4. Playing it crescendo and then loudly can unlock Your reed and without notice of of audience.

Other un-sticking lick it that: super fast -4 4 -4 4, but that sound not so nice as previouss

Keep in mind that sticking is caused by sweet drinks and wrong distance of reeds and plate. If reeds are to close to plate then often sticks,

That’s one of the reasons I keep my harp box close. During a pause (as part of the tune, or added) I can grab a spare and deal with the stuck reed later.

My -9 was sticking on my Bb harp on Thursday. Definitely a gapping thing. The blow bend is fine. But the draw is super-finicky. I need it again this Sunday for a show! Argh. I wonder if I’ll open it up and try and fix it, or just live with it, lol!

First thing I try if it is a draw note is trying to bend it. I does work sometimes, If it was laying as it should its probably something stuck in the reed.

Thanks Scott
