Hi All. I am a Jesse Welles fan and would like to make tabs for his short harp work accompanying his guitar. I see folks post requests for help with songs, and I have tried harptabs, but I wondered if there was a resource to help me figure out tabs (other than asking Luke all the time). I am a novice but hoped some app or website could process something like the riff in “Squirrels” for instance. Thanks.

How about using your ear to figure out the tabs ?? It is a terrific skill to acquire. You can use the YouTube speed function to slow down the music, which helps you match your tabs to the riff in question.

I would be willing to try certainly. One issue is, I don’t know which key harmonica he uses for each song.

Roly Platt recently released a resource for making your own tabs, appropriately named Fab Tabs. Think of this as an auto-transcriber for harmonica tabs made by a harmonica player, for harmonica players. The software is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux (which makes me really happy as a Linux user myself) as well as a browser version.

Before I spend $21, not a deal breaker, but does anyone know if I could play a Jesse Welles lick on my phone and have it upload onto the app on my laptop?
I have found HOOK THEORY to be a valuable resource. It doesn’t give you the tabs, but it helps you figure them out.
It shows the key, the main rifs and the Bpms, which are helpful in figuring out which key to use and where 6o start on the harp.

There are only two options, piano and guitar no harmonica.

@KeroroRinChou TP told me something about mvSep, remove wind, submenu, takes harmonica out? Can you then bounce out JUST the harmonica part? Do you know?
Thanks for the feedback. I found a nice key guide elsewhere on this site so could likely find the harmonica key Jesse uses, but what would be next steps other than trial and error (as I can’t tell by ear)?
So, I was actually the one who told Todd about MVSEP. The whole reason why I started recommending it to those who wanted to learn songs was that in most stem isolation tools like Moises and Audiostrip, they don’t really work well with harmonica. A lot of the time, the harmonica would be separated into the vocal channel instead of the wind channel or there was no dedicated wind channel at all. There are times where the harmonica’s buried deep into the mix that you can’t hear how a specific lick is played. I discovered MVSEP on my own through Google and when I found out that it had a harmonica module, I knew I had to test it out.
I mainly use it for creating stems like what I did for my “One Track Mind” remix (which is why the chords in there had a really distinctive sound, as it was two different FM synth patches and a Hohner Golden Melody all being played at the same time). It works very well on acoustic as well as some amplified diatonic playing. I have not tested it with chromatic yet, however. I noticed that it works the best with acoustic diatonic playing as sometimes the amplified playing cuts and fades out at random points, so I prefer isolating acoustic playing.
