Does anyone know if Rocket Amp covers fit Special 20 harmonicas? And if so, are any modifications necessary to get the covers to fit the Special 20? I have sanded down the sharp corners on the over plates but I keep cutting my lower lip. It’s like I have to hold back when I play my Special 20s.
thanks for any feedback.
I have both and the cover plates are similar in size, but I don’t think they are close enough to easily swap them over. The fixing bolts are in a different place so that would be the minimum modification. I have sanded the corners of the combs on my special 20s, and they are comfortable enough now. The rocket models are definitely more comfortable out of the box.
I have some MB Deluxe with Rocket cover plates that Joe Spiers made me. When tongue blocking, I can occasionally get my tongue pinched on the left corner between the cover plate and comb. I think he may finesse the plates to get them to sit in down in the groove.
@Boaz_Kim_Music would probably have some insight here.
@Catapaw The Rocket Amp coverplates will fit your Special 20’s particularly if the Sp. 20 was made after 2014 or so but you’d need to drill out the comb or the coverplates. These newer Special 20’s have the same reedplates as the Rocket series, so there are extra holes drilled into the reedplates which you can easily use as the template. As for cutting your lip, I’m sorry that’s happening. Are the coverplates flush with the front edge of the comb? I’ve been playing Special 20’s for many years and don’t have this issue. Sometimes the very corner of the coverplate is sharp where it is rounded out on the Rocket series.
Thanks so much for your reply Boaz! You da best! Yeah, I’ve had that corner of the rocket cover plate catch my tongue when doing sloppy TB-ing stuff. Appreciate your input here so much bro!
