I just wanted to say a quick thanks to the Harmonica itself but also this group. Since I decided to take this journey I have all but completely stopped death scrolling on social media. I have another purpose and direction to go. I also want to thank all the people in this forum for being awesome human. Social Media and a lot of forums are complete dumpster fires if “know it alls” in specialty groups. I have found everyone here to be great, smart, helpful and encouraging. Thank you. I simple google search lead me to Luke’s lessons here and this forum and I am extremely happy for it. Thank you all so much.
A little off-topic, but what helped me get off the phone is “physical apps,” for example physical notepads instead of the notepad app, a real watch instead of the one of your phone, real mp3 players, etc - cause every time you check the time it’s an extra incentive to “quickly check social media,” whereas with a physical watch you just sit and admire how it glitters. Harmonicas also fall into this category since even though you can’t play them on your phone, it’s one more way to have something else to pay attention to and think about - another different shiny thing, so to speak.
It’s become my go to “5 minutes de-stress” tool whenever the situation allows it.
And I find the forum very helpful and a nice positive environment, and the same can certainly not be said for many online forums.
Thanks for making my day @davemacinnh! I’m 99% off social media myself. Analog journal, analog books, I listened to records and Spotify and Apple Music - music streaming platforms don’t seem to entice me to social media. The thing that occasionally does is some people like to communicate through Facebook Messenger, and sometimes that gets me onto Facebook, and same thing Insta I have one friend who likes to communicate through that Messenger app, lol.
I agree it’s refreshing to be on a harmonica forum that’s not antagonistic.
@yuriythebest i completely agree with you. The phones can be a real distraction and I am doing better at not gravitating towards it so much. And like you said, I am now more focused on the shiny thing that makes music. Haha
@Piglet it is really nice, now if I have a couple minutes I check the forum. Way better than the crap on social media.
@Luke I have said it before but will say it again, if it wasn’t for you I wouldn’t be where I am now at almost 2 months in. You are a stand up guy and someone I look up to and aspire to be like one day. Thank you thank you thank you. Now, I just need to find some people in NH that play and want to hang out. It’s the only thing I’m missing… I don’t even know if I know how to make friends at 49 hahahahaha.
@davemacinnh Are you a SPAH member? I think they have some kind of database. I’m guessing there must be some kind of harmonica club somewhere in NH?
@Luke yes I am a member of SPAH. I looked and the nearest members are 70 miles away from me in Mass. I haven’t been able to locate if it shows clubs on the site or not. I’m assuming there isn’t one here.
70 miles ain’t to bad if y’all can meet in the middle somewhere?
@Luke That’s true, if they would be willing to meet up. time will tell… Maybe I need to start a club or something here in Central NH
