The flood of "AI harmonica" youtube slop

I’ve been holding off for a while in making this thread,
Youtube is inundated with channels where:

  1. The preview image is AI-generated, often with ridiculous harmonicas that don’t make any sense
  2. There is usually no mention of any actual “artist” in the description, just that it’s “blues”

but now I’m genuinely interested - when it comes to these “slop channels,” can anyone who actually listened to lots of “real” stuff surmise if the actual music is stolen or AI-generated? And if it IS in fact AI-generated, can anyone with an “experienced ear” actually “tell” that it’s AI? For example, I tried listening to it and it doesn’t actually “seem” bad?

Some of it starts to sound more like an electric organ but sounds real but enhanced. Much of it is infact totally AI generated. Some caries a disclosure. What worries me also is some of the lyrics are downright nasty. Blues has some stuff like country does that is not too positive about women but its at least sentimental. Some of this shit is just bad. Give it thumbs down every time. AI is theft. It needs to steal from originals to create its fakes. Things like advertising movies etc will only use AI soon for sound tracks because they can get it so cheap. If its so difficult for people to tell the difference it’s impossible to discriminate against it.

I’m doing my best to avoid and not engage with any AI slop.
I hate the “this” is the thing we turn the impressive power of computing towards - mass scale rip off of creative efforts for a quick buck.
I was hopeful that if enough folks just aren’t buying the AI hype beast the it’ll gradually die back into actually useful applications but it seems most of the human race will just lap it up because it’s low effort.
I feel sad and old and cranky now.

When I first heard one of these, I questioned it, but wasn’t sure. As I listened to more and more of them and the harp sound was always pretty much the same, I thought how is this being EQ’d, then I really suspected it to be AI generated. Lot’s of the licks are pretty good and one could actually pick up some decent riffs, but it all seemed to lack any real feel I stopped listening after a couple “albums” as it became pretty boring! But I gotta hand it to whoever is doing it, as it is the most realistic “fake” harp I ever heard LOL!!!

Interesting subject. You already know that I’m an old Techno dinosaur, so I don’t know a lot about it. No doubt there’s plenty of potential discussion to be had about the moral issues of copying or stealing, but that’s nothing new in the music world. Most of the criticism I have read about the sound of totally AI generated music is that it lacks emotion or soul. I wonder if AI will figure out what soul sounds like and begin to apply that.

Indeed. Here is a pallet cleanser with some real stuff I got recommended. I’d listen to this on repeat rather than hours of AI stuff any day:
