Welcome. You’ve picked a good instrument to learn to play and lessons will improve your abilities faster. Also, if you want to perform, it’s much easier to carry than a piano!

Hi @johan.roos welcome to the forum! You WILL SUCCEED…as long as you NEVER QUIT!! SP20 is a great harp. You got this! :facepunch:t3:

Hi, my name is Emil and live in South Africa. I’m eagerly awaiting my Farmer SideNote harmonica holder I have purchased with the magnetic strip. I am very grateful someone mentioned here that my Swan brand set of harmonica’s will work well with the magnetic part. I first bought the cheap one with the bracket on springs, but it is just too difficult to use. I’m learning some of Neil Young’s harmonica parts and others to accompany my Martin HD28 accoustic guitar. Being quite accomplished on my accoustic guitar I really want to include harmonica accompanyment now. This looks like a great site to chat and learn things about harmonica’s.

Hey @Emil_Loffler from South Africa, welcome to the forum! So glad you’ve joined us, and SO glad that you’re adding harmonica to your repertoire! I hope you love the SideNote as much as I do. It’s my #1 favorite harmonica holder! Rock on! :sunglasses:

Hi, I’m Lance and I’m 76 years old and I just retired from my day job. I enjoyed playing the blues harmonica about 25 years ago and just got back into it. The best harmonica I ever owned was the Hohner Orchester, but they don’t make them anymore. The reason I liked it was because the combs separating the holes were rounded, which made it very easy to bend or block notes. Do you know of anybody that makes this type of harmonica?

I looked at the harmonica you were talking about, the Hohner Orchester. It looks like the tines (what separates each reed into it’s chamber) are rounded compared to other harmonicas, not the holes. I don’t think there is any other harmonica out there like it. Sorry I can’t help you on that front, but it looks pretty cool.

Hi. Trying harmonica once again. I already play diatonic accordion so some things are not alien to me. I seem to have more musical ability after an extremely tiny stroke, some problems with seizures, and giving up playing at all. When I did start playing again, my ear had improved to a very surprising degree (I also play fiddle). Anyway, trying to tackle some new instruments and taking another stab at harmonica, and I’m seeing a type of improvement I didn’t used to see when starting out on something. I’m also trying to teach myself repair on a really cheap harmonica that was acting up. I have better ones to play, so I can take some risks on this $10 Blues Band.

@lanceborofsky welcome to the forum my friend and CONGRATS on your retirement. The Gamechanger’s holes are quite round, but the corners are rounded. @Hogie.Harmonica I feel like you were talking about a diatonic with rounded holes at one point? Do you know of any?

@Shack welcome to the forum! How fascinating that your ear improved after the stroke! Wow. My dad had a big stroke, and it changed him in some ways that are challenging, but my best and longest conversations with him have been after the stroke Fascinating stuff. Use the search feature on the forum and type in “reed” and you’ll find lots of threads on the subject. I don’t delve into that at all personally. Rock on! :sunglasses:

Howdy! My name is Charles (“Charlie”) and I’m from Sonoma County, California and I just signed up for the Beginner to Boss Class. I’m excited to start my musical journey with my Harmonica! Currently I have a Fender Blues Deluxe. I have Lee Oskar being shipped to me.
