Thank you for the welcome! I find having it with all the time comforting as well. Sometimes I can play a melody or scales when waiting in the pre-op area for my next patient or in the recovery room. I keep it in my hand when driving and can play scales at a stop light. At this time I have finished the Beginner to Boss course, which I would recommend to anyone starting out. I now am in Will Wilde’s course. I also have Howard Levy’s course but find I am not ready for his style of teaching yet. I even keep a harmonica by my bedside to play something before going to bed. I find the harmonica so much more satisfying than losing myself scrolling social media at any time.
@mightyllama Hey David! Yeah man you can do this!
Hey @steve.winston.allan welcome to the forum man! If you can learn by ear and memorize, that’s always the best way! But regarding technical stuff, I’m not sure what’s going on, but if the problem persitsts, just send a message to technical support here:
They are AWESOME, and they’ll get you sorted. ![]()
@Doc808 wow so cool!!! Harmonica was great for me recovering from heart surgery last year as well! I’m in Kona on the Big Island. Rock on! ![]()
@Midnight_Rambler that’s so cool you gave your girl a harp! So are you tongue blocking?
Yea I think I’m sort of u-blocking… more like a curl to direct the air to single holes… dont think I’m necessarily blocking other holes with my tongue…![]()
Mike here, and I’m a complete newb. I’m on module 2 of beginner to boss, just finished the train lessons. I was going to upload the video of me trying out the train whistle on my new Lee Oskar but it wouldn’t let me. Your loss ![]()
I think you’re going to really enjoy that course! Luke does a fantastic job of explaining and demonstrating. He is also very encouraging. I found it fun and still go back to many of the lessons. Welcome, nice to meet you.
Hi Reese, I know it’s an old post, but the picture of the Hohner Echo caught my eye. I got the exact same harp, and also from my mother.
One day, I hope I will be able to play it. It does have a lovely tone.
I’m Jutta from England. I loved playing in a brass band, but then got a facial palsy and had to stop playing. (Slowly, slowly getting back to it though.) I kept on wondering what else I could play, then I saw it in the musical instrument museum in Brussels: a harmonica! Perfect! Portable, nice sound, and right from the start, you can play it on our own or with others, in all kinds of styles. I’m loving it, and that’s mainly down to you, Luke. The course is so well structured and the lessons delivered just at the right pace. And you look like you actually want us to learn. After every lesson I feel like I’ve learned something new and I’m excited to move on to the next lesson. Feeling like a kid in my excitement! Maybe best of all: it’s actually helping my return to brass; the concentration on breathing, posture, relaxation, tonguing - it’s all directly applicable to brass, but so much easier to think about when you’re not trying to hold a pile of plumbing at the same time. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Hi Jutta! Nice to meet you! It’s so cool that you discovered the harmonica! That’s kinda how it was for me. I went through a back injury/surgery this year, had to give up violin because the posture and ergonomics are awkward and unnatural. I discovered the harmonica and it was something I could play during all the time I spent lying down. And it brought me joy. I also found Luke’s course and had a similar experience. Thanks Luke!
@mike10 welcome to the forum bro! Yeah man just upload the link to YouTube and share the link. Can’t wait to hear ya!
@Doc808 Thank you for your kind words. I really appreciate it!
@js1 Wow I’m so stoked on all of this Jutta! It’s so cool the way so many technical principles will transfer across instruments! Welcome to the course and the forum. Rock on! ![]()
Hi all. I wish to take my dabbling with the harp to the next level and saw this site and forum. Very much still a beginner. The intro is impressive but browsing through the forum it all looks very advanced. Please reassure me beginners are still in scope..! Cheers
Hey Hugo. Plenty of beginners and amateurs here. Have a look at WHAT SONG ARE YOU WORKING ON section. Search for your questions topic before you post a new one and add to existing threads. Unless you can’t find the topic then start one. Guys here are a bit sleepy until I ou ask a question then they perk up and help you pretty quickly usually.
Maybe tell us a bit more about yourself and what harp you’re playing.

@Hugo, in my observation, there are more of us beginners than there are advanced players. The forum may look advanced to you because it’s the people who know the answers who answer the questions. The rest of us do more reading than writing, and that’s one way we learn. Sometimes I don’t even understand the question, let alone the answer. Just enjoy playing, don’t worry about what level you are.
@Hugo don’t worry buddy. There’s thousands of beginners on this forum! You’re in good company. Please let us know what you want help with!
Hi Hugo!!
Another beginner here! We are all around. And proud to be…
And don’t worry. Even the pros are still learning….
So let’s enjoy with that little piece of metal and plastic and all the magic that hides inside…
I used to buy Exho harps at the Navy PX in Naples, Italy, circa 1958- 62. Super cheap. Played them over the years, G/C, A/D. (Echo harps are “tremolo”: ergo, 2 reeds for every note.
Now only G/C available, $169.
Found these EasyTop harmonicas from China for $29.
Hello Carlos1,
I have several harmonicas (2 small suitcases full) and I have been enjoying my harmonicas for years. I have never learned a song. I have just played for myself; whatever sounded good to me. Now, inspired by Luke, I think that I am ready to learn some other stuff. Mississippi Hill country Blues is my main interest but I need some basics under my belt. I signed up for Lukes “Basics to Boss” course and will work on that. My Seydel Session Steel and Baby Fat minis are my favorite harps right now.
With a side serving of the Grateful Dead maybe (based on the presence of a ‘Steal You Face’ logo)? ![]()
@stcin I really enjoyed Luke’s course and go back to some of the modules often. I think you will enjoy it!
Hi, I just started, I recieved an old Organ too, I use it while I walk my old dogs, and I want to share a song with my mum for Christmas. Her Grandad liked “It’s a long way to tipperary”, Dec 20th I sink, but I’m more a half full guy.
( Thanks for Tutorials Luke and day 2 ). Help me with any examples so I can see what I’m doing wrong. Thanks Friends. My old organ was rusty so I just got a lucky 13 in C with 10 plus 3 and I ordered a Lee Oskar Major Diatonic Harmonica 1o in C too for tomorrow.
Hi, it’s Morleypeach. Thank u.
I’m cap guy, me an Luke would look like pees in pod.
Good stuff @mauleypeach! The cap is scientifically proven to make you better at harmonica. Welcome to the forum. Congrats on the new harps! LMK if you need anything. Rock on! ![]()
