Introduce Yourself!

Welcome @Drysdale, I knew nothing about music when I started. Now, two and a half years later, I still don’t know anything about music, but I can play the harmonica. Theres nothing to be scared of, except maybe addiction as Toog mentioned, but it’s a healthy addiction. Enjoy it.

Ha ha, thanks @toogdog and @PapaCurly . It does appear to be a funny little creature. I have made sure that it has been in my bag both yesterday and double checked I had packed it in this morning after practicing last night. Also keep thinking when I can sneak in a practice session. Day one of this journey completed and fear has completely change to excitement and thrill. Bring on this new healthy addition.

Hi everybody here, now, & another day, It is not an easy task, not just to write, but to talk about myself…but, I try, My name is Jorge, I’ve been carring my Harps, for around 40…50, or a bit more, years, & I am still learning, not meaning “advanced” chords, & tech’s, I mean, also that, but quiet often, when playing, some of the very first things that I started with, a long ago, I guess, patience and the love in this Journey, is one of the most valuable aspects I have “recently” learn to accept, and that could expand to My very own life project, in many aspects…so, I’m here to learn from people here, share, from time to time, from/with You, who find the time and space to find that sound, that is been searched, played, and all that it can mean for each one playing Harps…ah, whatever the name, branch….materials, etc….I would be around here…Thanks to All…

Hi, my name is De’Andre Foskey. I came here because it is my first time I’m playing a Hormonica so I thought I could get help with learning different songs and how to get tips on how to play certain songs.

Hi Luke and gang. Fred Wackerle here. I’ve been playing straight harmonica for pleasure a long time ever since my Dad gave me my first harmonica. I am 87 years old, and finally decided to cross over to cross harp because I LOVE the blues. Discovering cross harp has been a revelation. And, thanks to Luke, (after years of frustration not being able to bend, Ifollowed :Luke’s tutorial and using “KA” it finally happened! I can bend! ( I’m a throat cancer survivor, and thought that prevented me from bending). Having fun testing all sorts of harps, from Seidel to Trochilus, and looking forward to learning more blues tracks.

Hey there, I’m Cliff from NC I’m in my mid 30s and mostly listen to rap music and hip-hop but the YouTube algorithm started pushing harmonicas on me so I’ve got one on the way. I have very little musical background and have trouble whistling a tune, so I signed up for the beginner to badass course and I’m excited to see where this takes me!

Hi, Happy New Year, my name is Nicky Boy Harris, & I’m really excited about learning to play the harmonica. I normally live in Cardiff, Wales, in the United Kingdom, but currently I’m on my usual 3 month winter vacation in sunny Thailand. I hope to chat with other beginners & also pick up some tips & advice from Luke & other experienced forum members.

Hello, Harmonica Family. Most of all hello to @Luke, our esteemed host and teacher.
Thank you all for having me here. I have observed you all collectively and individually for about 2 years now… I think y’all are super cool individuals, very much so.
Please refer to me as “Russ,” not “Little Priest.” And if I could prevail the favor of not stealing that handle elsewhere, I would appreciate that.
I have been a harmonica player for 30 years, and I still totally suck at it.
This is why we are here: to share with one another, and to learn from @Luke .
I am from Texas. I am extremely political. And I will leave your politics alone, completely. Please respect the same.
My current interest is the Trochilus; because, frankly, Harmonica Family, I find it to be the most significant invention in harmonica technology since the plastic comb.
i seek harmonica study and improvement with y’all.
And, at the risk of politics, I think that China has overtaken Europe in terms of innovation and production.
This is fine–let’s go where the winds blows…
They make the instruments; we play them. WE make the music.
I am humbled and honored to make all of y’all’s acquaintance.
Happy 2026! Let’s get to work.
Cheers,

@johnbisnette Hey bro - happy belated birthday! Sorry for the long delay. Welcome to the forum!

@dedefoskey Right on De’Andre. Ask away my friend. Welcome.

@Wackerle So it IS possible to teach an old dog new tricks. WOW. Thanks for sharing this story Fred, and congrats on being able to bend my friend! Thanks for joining the forum.

@cliff.clicks.pics Here’s some things for you to check out:

  1. The original: Bad New Brown

  1. Dirtwire isn’t exactly hip hop, but there’s a bit of a hip hop aesthetic to it:

You might like my old project was a blues rap duo called Nowelo, especially the track “Leave Me.” Lots of explicit lyrics, but

Oh and beatbox harmonica player extraordinaire Moses Concas:

Check out his duet with Lee Oskar!

@NickyBoy my wife and I honeymooned in Thailand in Koh Samui. Welcome to the forum. Glad to have you.

@LittlePriest welcome Russ! Let’s have some fun!

Hi, I’m Heath. I’m a big fan of blues harmonica players such as Sonnny Boy Williamson 1 and 2, Little Walter, Big Walter, Junior Wells, Sonny Terry, and many others. I’m not a harmonica player myself but I’d like to find a harmonica player in the Philadelphia area to start a blues band. I’ve played blues guitar for over 30 years and had a blues band in the mid-1990s. I’d like to start playing with a group again and would like to get some gigs. Hope you’re doing well!

Hi,

I’ve been playing around with the harp for about a year now, have made it through the single notes module and am starting to work on bending (or screeching as my wife and kids call it).

I bought my first harmonica because I love southern and classic rock- in fact I ordered my harmonica right after I left a Springsteen concert thinking that it would be cool to be able to play some of his riffs. As a happy surprise, this course has turned me into some of the blues greats (Muddy Waters, James Cotton, Sonny Boy Williamson II, etc.) that I hadn’t really listened to previously. Thanks, Luke!

Hi there,

I’ve been winging it on various harmonicas since I was 11 (I’m 62!). Most of my playing has been cross harp in 2nd and third positions, but really I’m more of a chameleon who plays along with friends on their guitars. Joining the group here to see if I can bring more structure and logos to my playing and, of course, to challenge my skills.
