Little old lady in England ... wanting to learn

Hi everyone, love the Harmonica … just bought myself a Hohner Special 20 in C … found myself doing a blues two down two up but not much more than that. Looking forward to reading how everyone masters this wonderful instrument.

Hi Ingrid @Wezzie53, little and old is our favorite kind of Lady. I have found the conduct on this forum to be very kind and polite and the help and guidance to be very gracious. Of course, some of us don’t have much knowledge to convey but those that do are very generous with their assistance. The Special 20 in C is a great choice.
I hope you enjoy learning and playing.

Oh @PapaCurly, I’m dying !
You’re wonderful! I’m just wondering where I belong? Age is relative, where does old start? In the morning I feel like I’m 90, just like I’m 15 and otherwise somewhere in between. The age in your passport doesn’t count. And small, at 174 cm or 68.556 inches, doesn’t really fit either.

I always like how and what you write.

Thank You @AstridHandbikebee63. Well now, we could say that you’re midpoint and median but I know that you are more special than that. Ladies are allowed to be whimsical, so you can be whatever you want to be each day.

Hi Astrid
I’m 62 still doing a hundred press ups a day and keeping fit. My wife is 51 but looks about 30 and is stunningly beautiful. We exercise and encourage each other with diet etc Age is all in the head. We still love to dance and go and see at least 3 bands on Sundays

Oh what a great saying, thank you … your comments have made my day.
My first aim is to get the riff to Love Me Do and the rest will follow … I hope :grinning:

Oh yes, we could be neighbors . At 61.5 years old, I’m also a best ager. I used to do athletics, including the heptathlon and individual disciplines. Due to a serious traffic accident, I have had to use a wheelchair for 41 years.
I’ve been riding a handbike since 2001, a “half” bike that is attached to the wheelchair and powered by the arms. In my free time, I do volunteer work in my neighborhood. Among other things, I teach elementary school students to read and understand the German language. Not as dry as in school, with games and fun.
Oh yes, my harmonicas have also sweetened my life since autumn 2021. Unfortunately, I can’t tell you what my harps think.

One busy lady!!! I am off to the home of my Hohner in 18 days time, cannot wait, I love Germany for all its traditions and in particular, their Harmonicas! In the meantime I will keep trying to get these riffs and hope I can develop more of a smooth tune rather than the in-out-in-out I seem to have at the moment.

That’s nice @Wezzie53 !

Are you originally from the Klingenthal area? I was there a lot as a child in summer and winter.

I’m actually from Johann Sebastian Bach’s birthplace , the :green_heart: of central Germany. But I’ve been living “deep in the west” for much longer .

Yes, I’m rarely bored. That would also be a disadvantage for my disability and my mind. In the warmer seasons I’m more active outside, otherwise mostly inside and the harp takes priority. But there are always short daily exercises and sometimes a new song.

I hope you have a great time in Germany.

I am also disabled but I see myself as more enabled I have Asperger’s syndrome, PTSD, and I lost my right lung serving my country. Harmonica originally was a form of therapy to build up my left lung ( which has now fully expanded into my right ribcage and is very strong although I do get asthma occasionally. Around the time of my Therapy I also got into blues music which was actually a perfect fit. I’ve been playing 30 years or so now with the occasional time off for illness

Wow I’m an asthma sufferer so feel the in out breathing of this wonderful harp will help. Love how you see yourself as enabled … nothing else is allowed.

Thank you to those who have responded, you’ve made me feel positive about life despite the desolate state it appears to be in and the Harmonica will be the icing on the cake.

Absolutely @Andy2 and @Wezzie53 .

Such an exchange is also very important. You grow from it because you see how others cope with limitations. It also helps you get through the less good days. Thank you for your openness! If you need more time for things because of this, then you shouldn’t stress yourself out, but accept it. Everyone of us still has our strengths.

@Wezzie53 , I think your German is excellent, especially in writing. It’s such a difficult language! I understood everything you said straight away. My English is definitely not always good either, but I learned it too quickly with a break of decades, which is difficult.
Can you also speak Russian thanks to your father? I had to learn it for 6 years at school, which is also difficult with the grammar and different writing.
Bonn is a very beautiful city on the Rhine. I live right on the Ruhr with lots of greenery around it.

Harmonica will help with you asthma. Yes, I decided long ago that if people like labels so much I’d label myself. So when people say I’m disabled I say no I’m enabled. When people say both my wife and I are weird we tell them we are also unique. I’d rather not fit in than fit in with today’s society. My Wife and I have a great bunch of friends who are all into blues and rock music especially live music that’s how we spend our Sundays

@Andy2 , do you know the song “I am What I am” from “A Cage Full of Fools”?

The song has a different context in the musical, but it was the last one I played and recorded. I’m not a “go-with-the-flow” person. I’m not rebellious, but I question things a lot and think outside the box. So I don’t always use what’s offered as a solution, but am a pioneer, so to speak, which isn’t meant to be political. I always say: “Anyone can do it…” It’s good that humanity is so diverse. Otherwise it would be very boring!

You’re quite an inspiration … I love a rebel and I know I’m one myself. And your Sundays sound really something … makes me wanna be there
