Sonny Junior II Amp

Hi all,

I have a Sonny Junior II Amp (6x8” Sonny Speakers) but unfortunately no technical manual. The amp is mint without issues but I can’t find a manual anywhere. Does anyone by 1 in a 1,000,000 chance have a manual or know where I can get one please?

Many thanks

Do you have any of the manufacturers info on the Amp at all, it’s usually best to look at that first

That’s genius and I’m feeling a bit dumb for not thinking of that.

Thanks so much, I’ll look into that and see what I can find.

It was built by Cotton Amps in the USA, I have some leads on that so will follow up.

Thanks again.

Ok if you have no Joy let me know.and I’ll see if I can’t track em down. Usually there’s a web address or something on the Amp. If they have a dedicated website they may have a download for it

Have a look at Dirty-South Blues Harp Forum: For blues harmonica players, students, and fans. there might be something useful Jay1

Yeah, i have a sj2 manual. You won’t find anything online about the manufacturer. Bought my amp in 1997. Sonny Junior builds out of his home. I forget why he used cotton amps. I could look at my manual for a clue. What did you pay for your sj2?

Hello @HoneyBoy many thanks for your reply it’s much appreciated. I paid just under £1k for the amp including delivery.

I think later on he had Cotton manufacture under license to his specs but as you say there is no trace of them on the internet.

Is there any chance you could scan it as a pdf or take photos of each page please?

Would really like to have a copy in any form at this point.

Thanks again.

Very good price for that amp especially if mint and the speakers are in good shape. They were $2000 usd when sold originally.

What’s the serial number?

The amp has many configurations available. I do not remember how mine is setup. I’ll have a look. I’m thinking all 6 speakers connected to one output tranny. Low volume gig.

Keep in mind the 8 inch speakers do not push much volume, but you can use an equalizer and clean boost to get the most out of it, and it has a lineout. Never used my lineout that i recall.

Also, i found a CR mic to provide improved/best tone with the SJ2.

Cheers for the info, the amp is serial number 92. She’s plenty loud enough for what I’m using it for small venue gigs and the like.

Are you able to forward a copy of the manual by any chance, it would be really appreciated?

I have Serial Number 016.

Here’s the deal. The information is free, my time is not.

So, if you make a donation to the Sonny Junior gofundme for $100 GBP, I’ll PDF the manual at a local office supply store and send the PDF to you.

Gofundme link:

Here is a picture of the nearly 30 year old cover in case you think I’m conning you. Lots of cool information and endorsements in this 15 page manual. You’ll most likely never figure out the multiple configurations within the SJ2 amp without this manual.

You got the amp, a literal piece of blues harmonica history, for a GREAT price. I am encouraging you to pay it forward by donating to Sonny Junior’s gofundme.

By the way, also included in this will be the instructions on how to use the equalizer and pure tone pedal to create more volume and tone.

Trust me guitar players cannot help themselves. Eventually you’ll need more volume from the SJ2.

I used it on stage for a couple years and eventually migrated to Sonny’s 4x10 speaker amp configurations. Sold all of those but the Beast and Avenger.

Finally, Sonny did a lot of work with Kalamazoo 2 amps. Those little girls rock if you ever have a chance to buy one. 1x8 and a lot less weight…

Be well.

You’re right there about guitar players. You play a great set first half, so second half the volume creeps up.

That’s ok I’ve got other options, I’ll donate to charities of my choosing and if you don’t want to do a small favour no problem.

Not ALL the guitar players. The West Coast and Texas Blues guys know how to work volume to back harp. After that, your enemy is the ignorant sound engineer for larger venues.

I spent many hours tweeking my Sonny Junior Beast to loan to R J Mischo for a gig in my town on 8/2/24.

Sound engineer, walking around the room with his cool iPAD, threw all my hard work in the trash. R J was at 1/2 necessary volume starting out first song even though we told that DA ten times leading up to the gig during sound checks harp rides on top of everything. I chased that retard around the room for the entire show.

Those sound engineer idiots that can’t figure out how to manage harp in the mix are usually frustrated guitar players that do sound for SRV bands and have never listened to a Little Walter recording. Pissed me off. Could not enjoy the entire show because I was chasing that DA around the venue. 500 people were there. Pissed me off. I’m still pissed.

Yeah, the West Coast style is my favorite style, it’s what I’d love to play but finding musicians who want to play it in Heavy Metal country is difficult. But most of those guys and the Portland guys are my faves

Sonny Junior called a couple hours ago to discuss stuff unrelated to your problem.

I mentioned your situation and he said you could call him if you needed information.

I doubt he has a copy of the manual, but he designed/created the top level features and knows the operational details of his SJ2.

He did suggest you might offer him $50 for his time. Too many people expect freebies. Why would he be obligated to tell anyone anything without a donation being made to him? He treated original owners like Kings. Ultimate customer service.

Also note, Sonny Junior plays a mean harp. Look him up on Youtube. There are several videos of him performing duets with Sugar Ray Norcia (Room Full of Blues & Sugar Ray and The Bluetones), both electric and acoustic.

Good-luck, Sonseeker95.

PS If you send him 100 GBP via his gofundme, I’ll send you a PDF of the manual.
