Thanks for the warm welcome Brother! I appreciate it.
Semper Fi!
Hi fellow Harper.
This topic is a must for your research. Its in the lounge section. Lounge is for general chit chat still pertaining to harmonica. Harmonica Changed My Life Forever
I will look forward to your film one day.
@Harper1 welcome to the forum! I’m so sorry to hear about the loss of your brother, and glad for the way that you are honoring him! The train is the best place to spend time for sure!

Thank you for the inspiration Luke! I jammed la-bam-ba with you today on lesson 27. It was great!
Hi there all,
My name is Craig… I’m looking forward to my journey on the harmonica. I look forward to learning to the “Beginner TO BOSS” lessons.
Hi all, I’m a gigging blues harp player and vocalist in London UK. Play a mix of Marine Bands, MB Deluxe and a handful of Seydel Lightnings, which I play through Bulletini (recently lost but will replace $$$) Greg Heumann custom wooden mic or JT30. Usually gig with Lone Wolf Octave into Boogieman to PA these days, can’t be arsed lugging amps around
. Here’s a little vid of me with my band, Groove Rats.
That’s pretty cool, I can tell by the fact there’s no heavy distortion in your band that your not from the West Midlands. I’ve been trying to put together a West Coast style band for ages now can’t seem to find the muso’s. That’s some great harp playing there. My Wife says you could be my brother you look exactly like me!
Hey bro!
Getting a band together can be a nightmare! Do you go to jams? Drummer and bass player were “picked up” at jams, guitarist was recruited via either BandMix or findamusician.com - both of which have worked to a degree over the years. Good luck! Interesting to hear that you feel West Midlands is a hotbed for distortion! Do you mean the band or the harp? In that clip I’m a bit cleaner on harp than usual, we had a mate on the sound who kept cleaning up what he thought was unwanted distortion !
Guitar distortion the bands here are too frightened to play without maximum distortion on the guitar, they also think that British Blues is the be all and end all. Harp players ( good one’s) are few and far between here. My whole schtick, is based around old 50’s Chicago blues of Muddy, the Walters, Sonny Boy, George Harmonica Smith. And my more modern approach is harp players like Rick Estrin, William Clarke, Kim Wilson, Paul DeLay amongst others. It’s just difficult to find guys not stuck in the 60’s and 70’s. No one wants to take risks or try to stand out by doing something that is not what I already mentioned. Most of the open mics I’ve been to are exactly the same.
I play both diatonic harp and chromatic harp too, I go through a wooden bullet, it has a clean and dirty switch which allows me a lot of freedom, I also have added some Wilde tuned harps to my collection as I love the tunings along with my power benders they allow for some kick ass versatility.
Hullo! My name is Simon, and I’m not a harmonica player – I’m a guitarist who dabbles with other instruments like the piano and the violin. Despite being focused on music and theatre when I was younger (my first degree was Drama and Theatre Studies and I played the guitar in the first ever Amateur showing of the musical Chess), I decided on a stable career instead and have a non-musical job for a living…so I don’t get to do much music, except on holiday. We cruise quite a bit with Royal Caribbean which for me is awesome because when cruising we get theatre and live music every night – absolutely the highlight of my holidays!
I recently decided I want an instrument I can easily carry with me anywhere, and I heard a busker (I live in London) playing blues on a harmonica which sounded awesome, so I bought a fender deluxe blues harp in C and started learning to play it. I’m very much a beginner, can manage single notes and bends, can play in cross but struggle in third position, but I’m absolutely loving it. I picked up a few more harps (a couple of Lee Oskars in various keys, including a natural minor which is fun – hello my old friend the pentatonic scale) and have been carrying them with me everywhere. I’ve been on a couple of cruises with them, and the piano bar players have often been kind enough to let me play along with them – here’s a video my wifey took on a cruise from Dubai to Singapore in the schooner bar Redirecting...
I mostly signed up here to say a huge thank you to @Luke for the videos he shares, both on Harmonica.com and the older photos on his own YouTube channel. They’re an excellent resource – thank you!
Badmouth from Parma, Ohio. I enjoy covering retro video game music, 80s to late 90s mostly. I have been teaching myself diatonic and chromatic for the last year. Looking to interact with the harmonica community and maybe make some friends to jam with. I have been playing cover songs at gas stations in my free time, not too sure what to do next!
Hello,
My name is Steven and I’m from Southern Illinois across from St Louis MO. I am looking forward to doing this course. I got the course yesterday and I have changed my name and email address but it is still showing up with her name on here. I’ve followed along with some of your free stuff for a while and am ready to get a little more repitition and appropriately paced steps instead of chaotic haphazard video to video at random.
Hey everyone… Mark here from Austin. My son, who plays a lot of instruments, gave me a Easttop blues harmonica in C for Christmas. He knew I wanted to learn the harmonica but have been stalling so he kicked me into gear. I found this site when looking into playing some Neil Young tunes. When learning Heart of Gold I made my way over to some of the basics page and boy I am glad I did. looking forward to learning here. I really like the way Luke breaks it down and walks us through from basics to songs. For the record some of my favorite harmonica players are Neil Young, Mickey Raphael and Kim Wilson of the Fabulous Thunderbirds…
Can’t go wrong with Kim Wilson
@craig1 welcome to the forum my friend. Glad you’ve joined us and looking forward to hearing how it goes for ya!
@GrooveRat Yeah man sounds great! Sorry to hear the Bulletini grew legs, but I guess better the bulletin that the custom wood mic (in terms of cost to replace!) What is the Boogieman? I’m assuming you only use the Lone Wolf Octave as an effect sometimes (not always on)? So glad to have ya here bro!
@szymon Heck yeah man! Killin’ it! Thanks so much for sharing that video. Keep up the great work, thanks for the kinds words and stoked to have you aboard the harmonica cruise.
@Badmouth Right on! The heart of it all! I lived in Ohio for a bit, in Huron. Went to Oberlin for a couple years. I know the Super Mario Bros. theme. I should make a vid on it at some point. Glad to have you here. Rock on!
@bridgetearon welcome Steven! Great to have you here bro. Yes! Having a systematic step-by-step approach should help things get settled well! Can’t wait to hear how it goes for ya.
@MW_Austin welcome the the forum Mark! Glad the content is helping. My brother just moved to Austin, so I should make a visit at some point. You’ve got great favorite players, so you’re headed in a beautiful direction. Let us know how we can help. Rock on!
Hi Andy - don’t know if you could get there, but Fabulous Thunderbirds are playing in London in January, 3 gigs at 229 in Marylebone Rd. I’m going on 23rd January
Thanks,I would love to go but my wife and I are on the tale end of flu. I have only got one lung so I’m struggling to get over it. Went back to playing harp for the first time in 4 weeks yesterday it wasn’t bad but my breathing is still struggling
Hi. I’m new to this forum, however, I have been playing the harp for 40+ years, and I’m searching information about tubes in my SJ Cruncher Serial #54.
The tube layout specifies 5U4 6L6 6L6 12AU7 12AU7 and 12AT7 or 12Ax7.
For the configuration I received the last tube is a 12y7.
The question is if all 12a<X/Y/UT> can be swapped without problems for the amp.
Thanks in advance Thomas
Hi Dudes & Dudettes,
My name is Karl from Wales in the UK. I have been practising for about 6 months via a book (it is a very dry way to learn). I investigating and trying the lessons by Luke, they are very impressive …so, I signed up to the ‘Beginner to Boss’ course.
