What song are you working on?

I’m trying to learn way too many tunes already, but I would love to be able to play ‘Another day’ by James Taylor. It’s a beautiful song with beautiful lyrics and I think it would sound good on harmonica. I can’t find the tabs anywhere and I’m not having much luck trying to play it by ear. If anyone can find a reference to the tabs, I would be grateful.

Thanks @toogdog. Yes, that’s a start, I’m not sure about the key but you’ve got the right tune. Might be a long process but at least you’ve kicked things off for me.

Yes @toogdog and @PapaCurly , this is the Start.
I play this Tabs with B - Harp or C, or G, what you will.

I don’t know the song, but I only heard it briefly. Very nice :+1:!

Okay, here goes my first Dropbox share.

I’ve had Heart of Gold on my mind since you mentioned it the other day. I went to Luke’s explanation of the song and as often happens, my eyes get cross eyed when I look at all the numbers and my brain goes into freeze, despite his excellent teaching ability

So, as I typically do I started to just listen to the song on my head. The song actually sounds pretty good to me in about any key, but I decided to go with G, since that was the key it was written in.

I didn’t attack the harmonica solos but rather the harmony, and then a little ditty in the upper octave at the end. :sunglasses: :notes:

Let’s see how this works :point_up_2:

@Luke suggested I try to play the piano at the same time as the harmonica.

Rather than using a neck holder and playing the piano with both hands, I play the piano with my right hand and the harmonica with my left.

With my “piano hand” I first play the MELODY up to 1:36,then play CHORDS until about 3:00. From there to the end I PLAY the MELODY with CHORDS.

On this song, I originally learned it on the piano switching minor and major chords up and down the scale.

On this effort with both the harmonica and piano, I use all major chords except the D which sounds good on the piano in minor matched with my Golden Melody in C.

Here are the new lyrics I made for the Harmonica part if you’d like to follow along  :notes: :sunglasses:

How is it going. been out of the picture with a dead p c and some traveling. I am working on The Yellow Rose of Texas, Country Road and Ghost Riders. Got the last two pretty well down without using any tabs. The first one will take some time but its coming together. I live in Texas and can lose my Texas citizenship if this is not one in my pocket. Getting bending down but its one thing to bend a note and another to make bends sound good consistently. Its gonna be a few years before I will really be able to use bends well.

Hi Scott @scott4

Thanks for the call-out. I’m doing pretty well now, but at the end of next week I will need to go into the hospital again. This time for an operation on (actually in) my ear. The doctors say that three days in the hospital should be long enough and then I can return home. And my hearing and balance problems should be much less disturbing. Let’s hope that they are right!

I think everyone here will agree with that, Scott. It’s what you might say “separates the men from the boys” – and also “the ladies from the girls”. Keep working on it and I’m sure you will be able to keep your citizenship !!

Regards,
– Slim :sunglasses:

Yes @scott4 ,

I can only agree with @Slim again!

As I develop from a girl to a woman, I’m currently in puberty when it comes to the harp… And so far no one has chased me off the “yard”. Do you understand?

I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you @Slim that you can finally finish the construction site.
